BIM and DIGITAL TWIN: key tools for public asset management

A day of insight and discussion in Trapani with the public administration of the area.

In the heart of Trapani, in the historic headquarters of the Palazzo della Soprintendenza, the first of a series of training events dedicated to the Sicilian Public Administration was held. A prestigious context that served as the setting for the start of an in-depth course on Building Information Modeling (BIM), the adoption of which, made mandatory by the new Public Contracts Code, marks a momentous turning point in the management of public works and projects.

The initiative, which was strongly supported by the NOVA CIVITAS Foundation, represented by Livio Marrocco, and the BIM2025Sicilia Committee, led by President Ludovico Gippetto, had the merit of creating an initial space for discussion and dialogue between local government representatives and a table of technicians and experts. The objective? To provide concrete keys and operational perspectives useful for understanding the multiple dimensions of BIM and their impact on administrative and management realities.

After institutional greetings and Marrocco's opening remarks, Cristian Barutta(Studio VBS) took the floor of the technical panel, outlining the legal and regulatory framework within which PAs will have to move. What might have appeared as an option until yesterday is now an obligation, and the new code imposes a paradigm shift that requires awareness and preparation.

Next, Marco Lotti(4Days) illustrated the value of BIM, which, as a response to a real need for efficiency, triggers a profound organizational change in PA and the AECO sector. Central to this transformation is the role of ACDat, made even more evident here by concrete examples managed through the Truspace platform, capable of showing the benefits of an integrated digital approach.

The journey then shifted to the management dimension (of the construction site, economics, etc.) with Franco Rebecchi(Bim0) who guided those in the room into the universe of the Digital Twin. Through an excursus between projects already implemented and others in progress, Rebecchi showed how the Digital Twin can revolutionize the planning and economic sustainability of public works, offering unprecedented analysis and control tools for PA.

Ludovico Gippetto, president of the BIM2025Sicilia Committee, had the task of closing the day by building a trait d'union with local realities, with a real invitation to build an expanded table of collaboration.

The meeting thus proved to be a moment of growth, capable of highlighting the need-and at the same time the opportunity-to adopt evolved tools to decisively accompany change.

"The first training day in Trapani," comments Ludovico Gippetto of the BIM2025Sicily- marks a fundamental step for the territory's public administration. Stimulated by an authoritative table, we shared knowledge, tools and concrete perspectives on the implementation of BIM, with the goal of making Trapani's municipalities protagonists of the digital transition. BIM is not just a regulatory requirement, but an opportunity to simplify processes, optimize resources and ensure transparency and efficiency in public works. As the BIM2025Sicilia Committee, we will continue to support local governments so that this path becomes a lever of development, innovation and growth for the entire territory."
